Spelunking: There Will be Mud
We invaded Boy Scout territory at Eagle Cave in Blue River, Wisconsin. The largest onyx cave in Wisconsin is set up to host scouting troops, both boys and girls. In the past, girls have shied away from spelunking, but no longer.
Yes, sleeping in a cave is damp, cold, and wet, however the opportunities for exploration are endless. There are four levels, subterranean tunnels, and 3,000 feet of passage here. Don your best thrift store clothes, bring a flashlight, and you're good to go. Oh, knee pads, rubber boots, and a hat are kinda nice too.
Cabin rental is available for the more pampered crowd. Our troop spent one night in the cave and one in the cabin to please one and all.
The Cave Exploratory Weekend is a no-brainer to plan. All meals (pancakes, fried chicken, chili) and activities are included for an exceptionally reasonable price. Highly recommended.
